TV license renewal payment oddity

OK so I got the email saying my TV license is about to expire so renewal is required. (because I like the Archers, so sue me!)

Previously I've paid a year in advance but this time decided to go back to DD monthly.

So I put in my bank details for the monthly DD and hit the continue button.  Which took me to the credit card screen and wouldn't progress without me putting in all my credit card details which I did.

So it seems to me that I have just agreed to have my monthly payment by both DD through my bank account and monthly continuous payment on my credit card.

Is it just me or have I missed something weird here?

    You haven't needed any licence to listen to the radio for many years.    Have I just saved you a fortune?   very moneysaving, haha.

    Yes but not but.....

    @Peter999_2
    The problem is that they've moved when the Archer Omnibus is on Sunday mornings.  Used to be great, roll out of bed late, get the fry up going and at 10 am the Archers would be on.  Now someone has mucked about with the schedule we've finished our breakfast and Desert Island Discs is only half over so we have to turn on iPlayer and listen to the Archers on that instead.

    And my OH likes to compare the TV news coverage on the BBC vs CNN etc so still caught out.

    If The Archers is solely radio, or audio only on BBC Sounds then you do not need a Licence to listen to it.

    It sounds as though the system didn't take your change of payment route, and has charged again for an annual Licence.

    Hopefully you haven't ended up paying twice, that would be annoying.

    Obviously you do need a licence if watching live news or anything via iPlayer.

    You definitely don't need a licence if all you are doing is listening to any radio station.

    Are you certain that it's  definitely a legitimate email from TV Licencing? I frequently receive scam emails saying my licence is about to expire and asking for my payment information.

    My thoughts entirely - maybe you've been scammed?
