Dodgy light fixture

So story goes i bought a light fixture from Dunelm in feb 2021 and moved house in 2022 but didn’t install the light until june 2023 and a month later the cord hanging the light snapped as it has very heavy glass shades so it clearly can’t bear the weight of these shades. We fixed the problem ourselves as we really liked the light and this morning it snapped again and if the other cord had snapped too it would have been a nasty accident involving my little children. Callled dunelm they refused to do anything as its out of standard warranty of 2 years. But i argue a lighy fixture costing a £89 should not last a month before snapping! Its in the ceiling there’s hardly any wear and tear. Turns out they are still selling it and 9 reviews on the website say the same thing that wires snapped so its not just me! What to do? Dunelm rep on phone didn’t budge at all. I have photos with time stamsp and everything.

You bought it in February 21. How are Dunelm meant to know when you actually installed the thing and how long it’s been in use for?
What have the photos got to do with anything? Presumably they show when it broke, not when it was put up.From Dunelm’s perspective you’ve had the light for over three years - I wouldn’t be expecting them to change their mind. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I suspect you’ll not get them to do anything with your specific case but if it’s still on sale and reviews are suggesting it’s not an isolated problem, you might have more success by perusing it as a safety issue rather than a warranty issue. Best case scenario is that it gets withdrawn from sale or redesigned and if that happens, perhaps there could be a recall? Dunelm really don’t want to be sued by someone who has had a light fitting fall on their head…Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

how was it stored for all that time ??? May have something to do with its deteriation. cant expect any
recompense.. warranty is from date of sale..

Can you say which fixture it is?
Also, you say you fixed it - what did you do to fix it and was it the 'repaired' cord that snapped? If so then that might be on you.Past caring about first world problems.0 -

Plus, the op has 'mended' the cord themselves, which failed again, so Dunelm probably won't want to know about it.To be fair to Dunelm, there are over 60 good 5 star reviews for the light.

After this long, it would be up to you to prove there is an inherent fault. And given you’ve already tried to fix it, it’s probably not worth the hassle.By all means, go back to Dunelm and ask if there’s anything they can do and you might get a goodwill gesture. But keep the “could have killed my children” out of it. Nothing makes me roll my eyes more when customers come out with coulda, woulda, shoulda’s.0

It begs the question why did it take it snapping again for you to think of your little children?

However - a light fitting is something you'd expect to last longer than 3 1/2 years, so that doesn't mean you have no rights here.
As it's been longer than 6 months it's on you to demonstrate that the fault is inherent - the other reviews that say the string snapped for other people could support this. Assuming they're still there.
The warranty is separate to your consumer rights, so isn't relevant other than it would have been easier for you if it had failed within the warranty period.0
