Power of Attorney

I have been registered as Lasting Power of Attorney for my mum. It says on the letters that I should notify DWP and tax office. Is this with regards to my mum or for me. I get tax credits, but am I right in thinking being an LPA won't affect my benefits? TIA

You notify the DWP & tax office so that they can deal with you rather than your mom. It should have nothing to do with your benefits. That said you may want to let them know on the off chance it gets you logged as a carer in some sense - might make some of the benefit conversations easier if they know you have extra responsibilities.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Although this does depend on your mum’s capacity at the moment and whether she wants the DWP et cetera informed because she might be perfectly happy carrying on managing her own affairs for now. It’s just so that if you do need to contact them, you’re on record. But if that’s not an issue at the moment, then there’s no rush.
I’ve been registered as my mother’s LPA for about two years now and haven’t informed anyone as yet because I’m not using it. It’s there just in case for the future. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Thank you both, that has reassured me. Both me and my sister are LPA's. I live 100 miles away from them so don't have any daily care with mum. She's perfectly capable at the moment, I think more for her peace of mind should the need arise. I don't really understand it all, leaving my sister to sort it all out!!0
