The slugs are going to love the extra food.

I see you are using the carefully-created website of a small, independent British business to promote products bought-in by a foreign mega-corporation. Did it not occur to you there might be something a little morally suspect about that?
Imagine these were puppies and not plants! :D
    Not buying into it.

no, it did not occur to me. I might also be promoting an independent  British business because they have some wonderful varieties.  But that's fine, I will just delete the link.

I planted five a month ago.  There is one leaf left amongst the lot.  Never again.

Mine are all planted in large ceramic planters- individually. They also have a thick layer of petroleum jelly round the rim. The ones away from brick walls are doing well, the others near the house have slightly lacy leaves. I have (in the past) gone out with a torch at dusk removing slugs & snails. Copper tape did not work.

I am always looking under leaves, under pots etc to see if the leaf munchers are lurking!

Long ago I had them planted out in the garden and they got eaten, each year the plant got smaller until they gave up the ghost!

You make a good point there. Although I don't use the search engine most turn to, I thought Dorset Perennials would automatically feature near the top of a related search, but having tried in this case, I find they don't. This is odd, because their site and range is so good, they normally pop up for me regularly.
This is difficult, because other specialist hosta growers feature, and they're no more or less 'worthy' of people's attention than Dorset Perennials.
Perhaps the answer lies in not giving links in cases like this, or only mentioning nurseries by name. They want and deserve traffic, but not the sort that takes people there, shows them the supermarket plants are half the price, and allows potential customers to move on thinking they have the best deal. We know there's more to it than that.

Is that the 'new' slug pellets, or simply forgetfulness? I put out a Nepeta a few days ago and found it reduced to a stick yesterday. Three or four (that few) real pellets sorted things out last night. The result is too gory for a family friendly site!

I've never used slug pellets.  I adopt a 'survival of the fittest' approach with plants.

I've never seen anything get decimated as quickly.  Hostas aren't for my garden :)

Here, our surviving Frances Williams resides in a galvanised bucket. That's the organic answer, but at a steep price in today's junk shops!
