If your flight was delayed or cancelled in the past six years due to pilot or crew sickness, you're now much more likely to be able to claim compensation of up to £520 per person.

Oh good. Cue the next lot of ambulance chasing firms trying to get a piece of the action.
Perhaps your article should have a caveat pointing out that people don’t need to pay dodgy legal firms to make claims on their behalf.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I saw that reported on the BBC news site yesterday - it seems to be basically that a staff member failing to turn up for work because of illness is a foreseeable business risk which the business should have plans in place to mitigate against.

I wonder what the limits will be on when staff failure to report for duty is not a foreseeable business risk against which the business should mitigate?
This article today is very sad, but very timely in this context:

These days everything gets blamed on air traffic control restrictions with every pilot reading from the same script irrespective of airline. They should start their little spiel with the words 'Stop me if you have heard it before'.

In the US alone. The shortage is around 3,000 controllers. Of those who apply to be trained for the role the pass rate is around 60% - 70%. Globally the shortage is expected to last until the 2030's. Something to get used to. As not going to rectified anytime soon. As the demand for air travel shows no signs of slowing up.

Not sure what you are trying to say. That would seem to evidence that there is a shortage.

I have no idea if the ATC shortage is made up, genuine or down to incompetence.
I am just relating a light-hearted story having experienced the 'picked up an ATC restriction' scripted excuse on over 80% of my flights in the last 2 years - with delays lasting from a few hours to almost 3 days (partly self inflicted but I really milked the expenses on that one :) ).

Little different to any other industry or sector post Covid.  Not helped by the fact the Western world has an ageing population with fewer and fewer people being economically active.
