Damage caused to my property by DHL

I received my package on Tuesday, it was a box with 2 x 5 litres of paint and some other bits purchased from the Range. The driver had it on the floor outside and when I opened my door he placed it into my hallway and closed the door behind him. I immediately noticed paint was leaking out and when I opened the door the driver was gone. Paint was everywhere, even on the front door path and step with a trail line leading through my front door. This was really distressing as I suffer with disabilities and had to physically remove the box and begin the cleanup.
I have contacted DHL by email and sent them all the information plus images of the damage and I am still waiting to hear from them. I also contacted the Range who refunded the goods, however I feel this amounts to criminal Damage to my property and my doormats and clothing were ruined after the cleanup.
I am so upset this happened and was wondering what my rights are in respect of claiming compensation from DHL.
Please help, and thank you in advance for any advice

For a start, it is not “criminal damage” (unless you really think they did it deliberately), and even if it was, that wouldn’t help you anyway.2

It's not criminal damage, it's an accident in transit that's caused a problem.
Your rights lie with the retailer. Contact The Range and explain what's happened, attaching the photos, and ask for whatever it has costed you to clean up the mess. They've already refunded the items, so there's no dispute that the accident happened. You need to itemise actual losses. The cost of two replacement doormats is an obvious one if they couldn't be washed/cleaned. Clothing is a trickier one to claim, because you'd be expected to make reasonable efforts to not get clothing covered in paint, e.g. wear old/decorating clothes, gloves, etc. What other costs have you incurred? Assuming it was emulsion paint the flooring should have been cleanable with soap and water.1
