Does sound like they just made it up.

Thank you all for your responses.  Some good suggestions.  The parcel shelf was in the car when I handed it over.  There whole thing is strange.  It was raining when the car was picked up. But it is dry in the pictures. Unfortunately I do not have ring cam.

I am willing to go to court if I have to.  Would the document not being signed by me help my case?

Was the cost significant? Without the proof or evidence I can't see how you could convince a court. You might be better to treat it as a lesson learned and move on.

The cost was £189 for dent and paint damage - Quarter panel NSR and £129.99 for the parcel shelf.  This is the first time that I had a problem with Zenith.
Firstly, I thought that they were trying to claw back money because 4 days previously, they delivered my new car on a flat bed and did not pick up the car I am speaking about.  I had to call them to inform them that I still had the old car, it took 4 days for them to send that rogue to collect it.

Thank you all for your comments and advice.

    Lesson learned. :(

If it was raining when the car was picked and dry in the photograph it sounds like the photograph was taken at a later time or a different place where it was not raining. Unlikely he returned and took it outside your house  when the car was dry.

Could the photograph have been taken at the auction house?
  • I had the same with Zenith, guy just showed up, didn't do any inspection and just drove off. However I had no charges at later date and I took pictures of the car before, just to have proof everything is in good condition.
I wasn't even charged for excess miles.

To be honest. I did not even think that the photos were taken in my Street.  I questioned that and they said that they had checked with google street view.  They also stated that the Auction House said that the Shelf was missing.  It seems like the car sent straight to the Auction House.

I should of taken pictures and a video of the state of the car.  But I trusted the process.

You could ask them for a copy of the photo by email. It might just have date and location data on it, but not sure what use that would be other than telling you when and where it was taken.

This thread is a good warning to others though.

If you are 100% certain the parcel shelf was in the car ,can you not write to the company and state that this is a fact ,you cannot dispute the dent so if they remove the cost of the parcel shelf you will agree to pay for the dent ,if they will not agree tell them you will take them to the small claims court ,they might settle for that so a minor win for you.

Just given the bizarreness and trying to find an explanation..
Either you're misremembering the parcelshelf and didn't notice the dent.
OR the collecting driver accidentally dented the car, and then took pictures to cover their tracks.

The only way to get a lick of further info is to get a copy of that picture - perhaps you can recognise the background, or it may have time / location meta data.
