PHK: Your theory about roaming usage is very interesting. If roaming is turned on, could that create such high charges?
If they were in Sri Lanka and roaming then it certainly could. If the number was dialled from the UK then that's not roaming.

Was the person outside the UK at the time this occurred?  If in the UK were there any calls/data/texts used in the hours either side of this big call that could prove that there isnt any way they could have been outside the UK so quickly?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

taking it at of face value from what you say two phone calls were made from your relative's phone while they were in the UK and presumably asleep at midnight.

obviously they did not make the phone calls as such so two possibilities come to mind

    1. there is an error somewhere in the O2 system

    2. the phone calls were in fact made but by a rogue app on the phone that has permission to access and dial phone numbers

roaming is a red herring as your relative was in the UK at the time
  • Thanks for further comments; they are all most welcome.
My relative was definitely not outside the UK when the calls occurred, and yes, they would likely have been asleep.
I texted my relative yesterday, and she still has roaming switched on. I suggested she turn it off.
She used to have a lot of dealings with temu, but only by email (so she says).
A chap at o2 went through her apps, and told her to delete temu, which she did.

  • o2 apparently have an office in Sri Lanka. So the plot thickens.

I doubt this has anything to do with it? O2 have offices all over the world.
