Not sure there's a best way (someone will correct me if so) but just go to this page and follow the instructions

    https://www.lebara.co.uk/en/portin.html

EDIT: Don't do it today, weekends are not for porting.

Working all day Monday - If I do it before I go out (6am) how long before it starts to happen?

Nothing will happen before the following morning. Sometimes not until the morning after (particularly when virtual operators are involved as the host network [vodafone] will need to get involved too)

    Update ...
Went online at 6am Monday and filled everything in.
The soonest date offered was Wednesday, which didn't suit me so I chose Thursday
    Today's the day!
    🤞

    Well ... it worked!
Surprisingly everything seemed to happen at the same time ... about 3.45pm.
All seems to be working well, but had to do the trick I found on here whereby you disable the sim, dial a combination of *#46etc to get the phone info to turn wifi calling back on

I had an amusing email from O2 saying:-
<<Once your number's been disconnected, we'll generate your final bill within 14 working days. You'll need to settle any outstanding balance on your account, so make sure you don’t cancel your Direct Debit until your final payment has been taken. If you cancel your Direct Debit beforehand, you’ll need to call us to pay your final bill.
If your final bill is in credit of £5 or more, we’ll automatically refund it 30 days after the date on your bill. If you’re due a refund and have already cancelled your Direct Debit, you’ll need to call us so we can arrange payment another way, as we won’t be able to process it via BACS>>

But no mention what happens if they owe me less than a fiver! We will see!!

I think if you have less than £5 credit their default position is to donate it to charity. You have to ask for it if you want it refunded.

It amuses me that they say "you need to call us", but then don't give a number!!!
