Tesco Rocket Packs - Anything better?

I have a 2nd phone which I only want to use for Internet and Whatsapp

2 or 3GB is ample, very rarely (if ever text), only want phone so it has a number for incoming and verification.

I've seen the Tesco Mobile Rocket Packs at £7.50 a month whch looks ideal data wise, but is still over the top for minutes and texts (500 mins and 5000 texts)

Is there anything cheaper than Rocket Packs that basically give me 2GB of data, but only about 10 minutes of calls and no texts?

It seems a shame paying for 500 mnutes of calls and 5000 texts when I might use zero

All I really need is the data and ability to take incoming calls or messages - do plans like that exist?

  • How is your coverage from the different networks where you use the phone the most? Might narrow down any options.

You can untick 'All networks selected' on the left, and and choose based on the main networks, if you know from local knowledge that certain networks are better or to be avoided.

Also you can change the number of minutes and texts you need on the left, but as far as I can see almost all SIM deals offer unlimited minutes/texts, so maybe don't worry about that, just find the cheapest SIM that gives you enough data, as long as you are happy to go with a lesser known SIM provider...

Data only SIMs do exist but you need to remember that the cost to the networks of calls and texts have dropped to the point that they are so cheap it cost more to bill them than the cost.

If there coverage suits RWG will do one year of 5Gb per month plus unlimited calls and texts for £45 the equivalent of £3.75 a month

Rwg teaser plus, 2gb data plus unltd calls and texts. Or pay upfront for a year and get 2gb and 250 mins and 250 texts pm for £30 (equivalent to £2.50 pm)

    https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/offers/1-year-sim-250-mins-250-sms-2gb-data-every-month-for-12-months-one-off-charge/

Probably advisable to try one month first though.

    Thanks all.

Those RWG plans look like the perfect solution, but how do you check what their network coverage is like?

If I did get a plan with them, was assigned a number, but didn't like the service, can I keep the number and move to a different provider?

    You can trial it for a pound, gives you 20 mins of calls or 100mb or a combination;

    https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/offers/order-a-sim/

If signal isn't good enough you can text pac to 65075 and give that to another provider.
They are a pay upfront provider so you will not get a refund (unless in exceptional services)

If you decide to go ahead with a bundle enter the phone number they sent you in the enter number field and the package will be applied to that sim, if left blank they will send you a new sim and number.
