Phishing scam and Virgin cc

Hi all

i I have been scammed by someone/company posing as RingGo whilst trying to download the app and park at a railway station. My first time being scammed and feel really careless but was actually trying to help a friend with no smartphone.

i phoned Virginthat day as payment of £1 showing followed by £60. They have not been great as they cancelled the card and sent a new one but it seems there is a push payment and it will continue as a payment of £60 came out on 8th. After an hour on the phone they raised a dispute but it’s not a dispute in the sense that it’s a scammer! Lady said they may be amending their ID and taking future payments. Not reassuring at all so I said the FCA website says they need to deal with it and cancel payments but she says they can’t if the fake company is changing their ID. It’s bonkers how lax this is. No real protection but I may just close the account. It has a balance I can’t repay immediately though. Any suggestions please? Thanks

Just an update - the payment has been returned to my CC by Virgin😊. However they did warn me that the scammer could still try again as they have tried twice with different ID/codes. So after the first time they blocked it another payment request was sent through. I’m always vigilant via my Well One Money app.

Glad you got the money back for now.

1st off this is not a push payment, it is a card payment. Push payments use your sort code/Acc details.

So their action to dispute is the right way to deal with it.

Going forward. Be very careful if scanning a QR code, as it is a known issue that these people stick theirs over the top of the correct ones.
