Two claims or 1

Options
Two claims or one?    Long story short.  We had a flight edi to lhr with BA.  Flight was 11.45.  We were placed on standby but didn’t get on. Put on the 2.05 which went technical and we were delayed 6 hours arrived lhr at 2030.   My understanding is it’s automatic compensation for being bounced from first flight but what about the delay with second.  Also claiming for the taxi fare to Southampton as we missed all the coaches as we had long wait in Airport as they also lost the luggage. Didn’t find it for 8 days.

Why were you flying on a standby ticket EDI LHR? If non-rev staff then you won’t qualify for compensation.

Depending on your ticket type (i.e. not a staff ticket) you might qualify for delay compensation but this depends on the circumstances of the delay.

Claims for subsequent costs post arrival (your taxi) I doubt will be paid.

You should be able to claim costs for replacing urgent items from your lost luggage such as toiletries, underwear and a couple of clothing articles.  This is normally a travel insurance claim although some airlines might agree on a small spending allowance whilst you wait on your luggage to arrive.  What were you told when you filed the missing luggage report at LHR?

It was a “normal” ticket. I tried to check in online the day before but couldn’t. Did phone. They couldn’t do it so told me to turn up and do it at airport.   The delay was due to an oil light being on.  They had to wait for airbus to agree to them flying with light on.  With regard to case, issue was that we were connecting to cruise. We had to go out in Southampton and buy new case and clothes for the cruise.     We asked at airport to BA staff about taxi and we’re told to keep receipts and put claim in

We had two flights cancelled with BA original was city, then told to go heathrow, then had to come back to city airport. they paid for our taxi to heathrow and hotel stay. For all other expenses, BA paid all additional expenses, including one nights loss of stay and cancellation fee for a hotel in Amsterdam and they paid for all trains and ubers as we were offered a flight to Rotterdam. I would fill the online form and they automatically pay you within 14 days of receiving your claim unless they dispute.

    Update.

BA ignored my claim for 8 weeks.  they rejected it.  I escalated to CEDR who agreed it was osmething they could look at.  Phone call today from BA offering.  £110 for the standby each, £220 for the delay each on top and will pay the taxi fare which was considerable.  Also looks like they are paying in full the missing suitcase issue but need receipts sent again
