Hardsearch declined due to CIFAS Protection

I have just been refused a new broadband contract as the automatic credit file hard search was declined because I have CIFAS Protective Registration. This was not supposed to happen. How do I prevent it occurring again?

When I had trouble with ID fraud I put a password on my credit record with Experian, knew nothing about protective registration then. When I applied for credit the company would phone and ask for the password before accepting or declining credit. Maybe you need this too.1
