  • If you mean you just left the stew in the room all night , the harken to the old Yorkshire saying " if in doubt, chuck it out..." honestly not worth the risk. Put this down to experience, we've all done this!!!

    I personally think the only bacteria you are in danger from here is Salmonella and as it is a bacteria destroyed by heat I would recommend that you remove the stew from the slow cooker and put it in a normal pan and bring it to the boil and let it boil for a few minutes to destroy any nasty bacteria and then plonk it back in the slow cooker to finish cooking slowly.I seriously doubt you will come to any harm eating it after that

  • Don't throw it out!!

    I'd agree with ravylesley, especially if children were eating it, bring it to the boil in a pan. Slow cookers only heat up to around 70 deg C if I remember right so I would do this.
    Generally my fridge is too cold to fully defrost stuff overnight and I usually just leave stuff on the counter to defrost over night or even for a few hours in the day (unless very hot weather - unlikely here). I may get shot down in flames for this, but if the food is cooked properly it should be fine. As thriftlady says, what happened before fridges?

    I also agree withravylesley re the bacteria but I would cook it on the hob. It will be fine as long as long as you boil it

    Cook it tonight, chill it & reheat tomorrow, it will be fine. How high was the heating, chances are you didn't leave it on too high.
    Cooking it tonight and then re-heating will taste better as well.

    Right, okay. Didnt cook it last night. Its still in the fidge, but i flippin forgot again!!!

    Cant believe i forgot again.

    So, its been in the fridge 2 days now, do i really need to chuck it?? Ob, i will if it smells bad!!
  • I'm no expert but i would think it would be fine after 2 days in the fridge, and probably taste all the better for it!

    If it's been kept cool/cold it's probably okay, but we can only give our opinion on what we might do.
    How do you feel about cooking it? Regardless of what any of us say, trust your feelings.:smiley:

    Just make sure you bring it to a quick boil and boil rapidly for 10 mins before turning right down to simmer
