Unable to send email to Gmail account

Options
My wife is unable to send emails (via : reply) to a friend on Gmail - when she tries - she gets an error message

"This mail is unauthenticated, which poses a security risk to the sender and Gmail users, and has been blocked. The sender must authenticate with at least one of SPF or DKIM"

Her friend has just changed her email address to Gmail - so my wife has no other way of contacting her....
Any advice ?

It's a setting in your wife's email application.
Go into the Settings then Security and find the section on Authentication/Verification and look for those letters.
It was a security change made at gmail some time ago, I remember having to change the setting in my Ionos mail after sending to other peoples gmail started bouncing back.
EDIT It was in the Domain settings that I had to change it, not in the email settings, see my post below

Probably easiest thing is to set up SPF. Who is your wife's email provider and does she use a personalised domain name?

I've just checked and it wasn't in my email portal that I had to make the change, it was in my domain portal.

Here is the IONOS helppage about it, if your wife has a diferent domain host then they should have their  own similar helppage

She is on TalkTalk - as am I - and I don't get any errors

One solution is to move away from an email supplier that is linked to your broadband account.

Have you thought about what happens if you want to change broadband supplier?

Consider getting Gmail or similar free accounts.

I have already changed ISP's - 4 times since I first used the TTB email account !

Fair enough, another account for backup might still be of use sometime.

i once had an email service shut down on me and lost a few years of emails.
That's why I registered my own internet domain several years ago, I haven't put a website on it I just use it for my own email 'me@myname.uk' address. (Currently costs me £12 a year).
It doesn't matter who I have supplying my broadband, my domain and email is mine.
I do also have a couple of different gmails as well. (I forward those to my own so the gmails act as a cut-out and are fairly disposable if ever in a data breach).

However is she using the same domain name as you when sending emails (the bit after the @). Maybe she has a different or personal domain name as her sending address.
