Made the massive mistake of buying an integrated dishwasher from Currys, using a giftcard.
The installers damaged the dishwasher and our kitchen units so we got the dishwasher removed with intention of having a freestanding dishwaher which will cost less but Currys will only refund the money to a giftcard which is no use to us as we have no faith in Currys and dont want to buy anything from them ever again.
Their complaints dept are useless, only sticking to a script when you actually get to speak to someone... anybody any ideas of how to get a refund from this company that means I dont have to spend money with them?
Update.....
Thankyou for the helpful responses....I'm pleased to say that after working my way through many live chats and finally getting to talk to a series of increasingly understanding people, the unique circumstances of the situation have resulted in goodwill from the company and I am not going to be out of pocket so I have changed te title of the thread and am definitely giving them another go.

You got the gift card refunded.
Seems fair.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid3 -
If you originally paid with a gift card then they're within their rights to only offer a refund via a gift card - they don't have to refund you in cash.

I don't think you've much hope of getting a cash refund from a giftcard purchase. I think you're going to have to grin and bear it, maybe ask for free extended warranty or something thrown in as a goodwill offering."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein2

Many places state they will only refund in the same way the purchase was made. Pay cash you get cash back, pay on card and the refund is to the same card, pay on giftcard and you are refunded via giftcard.

The money has already been spent with Currys. You now have Currys' version of monopoly money.
You'll only get cash if you kick up such a fuss that it's not worth their time, and you are lucky with someone who doesn't want the hassle1 -
"Do not buy anything from Currys !! "......I thought about it for a millionth of a second and decided I will buy from Currys0

If they have what I want in stock, at a price I'm willing to pay, and they can deliver for free to my door at a time of my choosing, then I might buy from Currys. But I also have a large local electrical retailer that will price match and throw in free delivery.HumberFlyer said:"Do not buy anything from Currys !! Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
Menber, you've had a bad experience, so it's understandable that you are upset. But, as you can see, over-emoting can be counterproductive.
I suspect lots of folk have had decent experiences with Currys.
All you can rightfully expect is a refund for the returned appliance, and comp for any damage to your kitchen. What are they saying about this?
Do you have LegProt on your house insurance?2 -
Exactly, I think it's a money-laundering thing. Buy a stolen giftcard in the pub for half price, buy a new TV with it, send it back for a refund and pick cash, instant profit. Similar to why credit card purchases usually need to be refunded onto the same card that was used to make the purchase.CliveOfIndia said:If you originally paid with a gift card then they're within their rights to only offer a refund via a gift card - they don't have to refund you in cash.
Not suggesting that's what the OP has done, just to be clear, just considering their reason for not refunding differently.0 -

The situation has been resolved thankfully, they could see that this was a very unusual situation
