Seriously though, all the John Lewis Partnership have is his name and address, they wont have a mugshot, he will be able to quite happily go into John Lewis (and Waitrose) and shop to his hearts content, although trying to process a return may be tricky.Ok.. I was oversimplifying...the legal background to a ‘banning notice’ is that retailers invite, by means of an open door, signage, etc, members of the public to enter their premises and either view or buy the merchandise on display. A retailer can withdraw this invitation at any time to individuals.
If a person steals that is theft, if a person steals as a trespasser that is burglary but, the law states that in order for an offender to be convicted of burglary he must know at the time of entering that he was in fact a trespasser.

It sounds very dodgy to me, and I'm afraid I don't believe your version of events so I'm not surprised JL don't, either.
In practice though, there's nothing to worry about. JL don't have any evidence of any wrongdoing, just a suspicion, and there are plenty of other places you can buy things from.0 -
Thank you all for your help.

There is zero chance of the police being involved so you can stop worrying about that.Sounds like you’re saying the actual watch was missing from the box. The watch itself and the strap are separate in the box and you need to attach these. It can certainly fall out the little nook but for it to happen twice, is almost unheard of. And you finding it right away is another red flag. I’m guessing you only found it after JL questioned you on a previous order or raised suspicions? You’ve been banned from shopping with them. Your name and any associated addresses and email addresses are now flagged on the central system so no orders will go through if the email address, billing or delivery address matches. You won’t be thrown out of a shop if they don’t know you’re there, but they have your details and again, if you were having to give any personal details in the future, it’ll come up on the system that you’re a banned shopper.
Fraud with Apple products is sky high at the moment so they’re taking extreme action all the time.1 -
