Fitting skirting to plasterboard walls?

Hi all,

I’ve got some small sections of skirting board to fit on to plasterboard.

The plasterboard is of course fixed to battens, but these battens are either covered up by architrave, or plaster corner beads, etc.

Would it be okay to use some grab adhesive, then a short screw just to hold it in place while the grab adhesive sets?

Say, a 25mm screw? Enough to go through the 18mm skirting, but not so long as to go out the back of the 9mm plasterboard.

Grab adhesive will be fine. You will probably get away with a couple of small nails at the corner joints. Saves having screw holes that need filling later.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

The guy who did our skirtings used, I think, a spray foam adhesive. Instant results.

I just did skirtings using the Soudal plasterboard adhesive. Worked great.

Just hold each piece in place for a few minutes

It's not a proper adhesive. It doesn't work as well and it wouldn't last as long.

Thanks. Yes, and it's messy, and paint won't adhere to it.
It simply isn't designed for this purpose. It's a decorative sealant.

Have you ever stuck 2 pieces of wood together with silicone ?, try it you will be surprised at it's strength, no one mentioned painting it, it was about fixing SB to plasterboard, of course you wouldn't try to paint silicone.
