Streaming on the TV has started to get very annoying....

Options
The fact that this is now happening on Netflix AND Disney+ (may or may not happen on other services, just that those are the 2 I use) says to me that this must surely be something with my internet?

Just wondering if you knowledgable folk have an idea where I can start looking as to why this is happening.

It never used to. I used to be able to stream perfectly fine and before it gets mentioned - NOTHING HAS CHANGED except for my contract with BT ended so I can now leave without charge. No extra devices have been connected to the WiFi, everything that was cabled before still is, everything that was WiFi before still is & I haven't tweaked any settings.

But for a little while now things have been jamming/sticking/buffering. Some times it'll right itself early on but other times it makes the TV unwatchable. Last week we were trying to watch a film but thankfully I had it on blu-ray as it was just constantly sticking every few seconds so we gave up in the end & I dug out the disc & did it that way.

It could be quite a number of things - some external.

Have you run a speediest to see what kind of download speeds your actually getting? rather than what they tell you you're getting?

A good starting point would be to go here and see the results:

    https://www.speedtest.net/

Then compare those results to the package you've signed up to. Then come back and let us know and we can maybe point you in further directions once we've got more info.

Are you able to run a cable to your TV box and see if the issue still occurs with that?

Have you restarted both the TV and the router? A ful power cycle on both (not just turning the TV into standby) might solve the issue.

Sometimes a simple check of all cable connections can be the answer.  I had a similar problem and someone suggested this and it worked.

FWIW I had similar on Amazon Prime a week or so back, all other streaming, You Tube etc was fine, so I assumed it was Amazon, and it righted itself after a couple of days so my assumption was correct.

OP, worth seeing if buffering on other streamers like YouTube or iplayer?

The setup with my living room TV is this ...
I watch (Netflix / Disney+) on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro which is connected to the TV via HDMI and to the BT (Smart Hub 2) router via cat6 cable. Not completely directly - behind my TV is a switch in to which the TV, the Soundbar, the Nvidia Shield are all plugged (via Cat6 for each) which in turn connects to a faceplate on the wall which then routes under the flooring to where my router is located in the hall.

...It has always been like this...

    Speed test results:

    PC (also via cat6)

Mobile phone (Galaxy S24+) via WiFi obviously

As I say, if this only happened with Netflix or only Disney+ then I could understand but the fact it's happening with 2 different services...?

Cables all appear fine. Should be - no kids to have interfered with anything.

Will give that a go. Thanks.

BT wanted that back after my contract with them came to an end & I cancelled the TV package else they were going to charge me a daft 3 figure price for it.

An Ethernet cable can be had on eBay or Amazon for not a lot.
Sometimes they even come up on Freegle.

If you're running over WiFi then connecting via a cable instead would eliminate or suggest wireless as the issue.
The network cable which you would use to connect the router to the streaming box is called "Ethernet".
I assumed, based on your comment, that you'd returned the cable to BT, so was letting you know that they're not particularly expensive or you might even be able to get one for free (Freegle and Freecycle are websites where you can occasionally get such things for free).
