If it’s only the burner that is poor, you could replace it with a new one. A new Riello burner is about £450 to buy. Riello has a burner compatibility page in its website or you could ask a supplier or trusted OFTEC service engineer. A new burner should give a marginal improvement in efficiency.

Take a good hard look at the oil tank yourself before being bounced into replacing it. The current regs are not retrospective and only become mandatory when you replace it.

But, look to the future and go ASHP. That way your chosen BUS installer can benefit from the government’s £7,500 grant and you can bask in the rosy glow of having inflated their profits.

Metal oil tanks can rust from the inside out - so may look fine externally........

For a local OFTEC enginneer to quote for either tank and/or boiler, see
