Export tariff with manual readings?

I have a SMETS2 (supposedly) Smart Meter but no WAN signal so it can't communicate.  While I live in hope that a signal may be provided one day, I'm exporting surplus solar electricity to the grid for free.  Is there an export tariff I could use based on uploading manual readings from the meter?

    In a word.....no

Get some neighbours to get smart meters and you might improve the network through the mesh network created (that might North South dependent I will have to check)

I read online that the Arqiva LRR network in the North does not do mesh networking.  But not everything you read online is true.

Yep - I've checked the official specs and it's only the Telefonica (O2) cellular network in the south that supports mesh networking. Also, not all comms hubs support mesh networking - the comms hubs that support mesh networking are only installed where needed. I think I've been guilty of spreading misinformtaion about this in the past as it's only recently I've checked the official specs.

I don't think it's as simple as a "no".  Provided the meter has an MPAN and is capable of half hourly measirements, it should be eligible.

See https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/sites/default/files/docs/2020/02/seg_generator_guidance_-_final_for_publication.pdf paragraph 1.21. "Applicants that have a meter that cannot be read remotely should speak to their
SEG licensee to discuss how export meter readings will be taken."

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Thanks, that is interesting thanks for correcting me and useful for the OP

Not sure if this is relevant but I have a non smart import/export meter in addition to the generation meter and give the readings to Octopus every 3 months. I get paid for my actual export, about 85% instead of deemed 50%.

    What rate do you get?

@Sailbad has established the existence of export payments based on manually-submitted readings.  But the circumstances may well be different.

The mention of "deemed export" would imply that @Sailbad's panels fall under the old FIT scheme (which closed to new applicants in 2019).  Under the rules of that scheme, if you have "an approved export meter" you can opt "to receive the standard export rate" for your actual rather than deemed export.  Or you can opt to receive a "Negotiated" rate for your export if you have "a valid export meter".  I have no idea what the distinction is between "approved" and "valid" in this context.  And different rules could well apply under the SEG scheme.

Someone posted a link about interpreting the LED flashes which made it clear that the SKU2 hubs support mesh and the SKU1 hubs don't.  My SKU1 has a mesh LED that never flashes - which I found confusing.

Does anyone know if Vodaphone are going to support mesh, or something similar?

Vodafone are the 4G network replacement for Telefonica (who run the 2G/3G system that is being turned off).
