buyer possibly stalling

I sold an item that is to be collected over 10-12 days ago. After initial quick contact from the buyer all seemed fine. Now a cheque was apparently sent on close of auction (1st class), fair enough this could of got lost

Buyer has (today) offered to pay by paypal but i think i read somewhere that if accepting paypal payment method then the item you have sold must be sent to paypal registered address, in order to be protected? Is this correct?

Does the buyer gain anything by taking along time to complete the sale process?
Should i just request a fresh cheque to be posted? All advice welcome!

If the buyer then comlains to Paypal that they have not received the item (despite the fact they picked it up) then you need to provide proof of postage/delivery.

I would advise caution here - if they are going to pick it up, then you could ask for cash when they collect it (not a cheque as they may put a stop on it).

It does sound a bit dodgy and if it was me I would proceed with caution.

Cheers for replying Trow. I did specify cheque would be ok, however i also said that the item cannot be collected until funds have fully cleared. I will proceed with caution tho.

Type yourself up a nice little receipt thingy for your buyer to sign when he collects the item - one copy for him and one for you.

If he accepts your offer to pay by cash on pick-up be sure that he doesn't short-change you and/or pass you forged notes. There was a very recent thread of someone doing just that on a bicycle(?) sale.

careful about accepting a payment thru paypal - friend of mine sold a double pushchair on ebay and got payment thru paypal with the buyer collecting [as it was a bulky item]

buyer came to the house - had a cup of tea and used the loo etc - seemed pleased as anything with the pushchair.

next thing my friend know is that the buyer has placed a non selling seller thing on her and a chargeback via paypal stating that the item was never delivered

my friend ended up losing a nearly new pushchair and her money

her brother lived local [ish] to the buyer and met a neighbour of hers - who told him that the buyer had told her about how good her new pushchair was and what a bargain it was  and that she could really recommend buying on ebay

friend went to the police about it but they said there was nothing they could/would do about it.

sorry - that turned out a bit long :o hope your saga turns out better

If possible try to film/photograph the buyer actually receiving the goods.

If the buyer says hes not received goods, you will have evidence to prove that he has.

I e-mailed and said no to paypal due to the whole delivery thing. I suggested to bring cash on collection but the buyer didnt reply (was a quick succession of email so i think the buyer will have read the mail there and then) Im going to mail tonight and ask which payment method they are using. Does that seem ok or too pushy?

Have you heard anything since you emailed the buyer?

Good timing Bendybops :T , was just about to post update! Buyer on Sat said he was cancelling the cheque and sending another one on monday using next day delivery to arrive b4 noon (is this possible?) via recorded delivery. So its nearly 5pm tue and you guessed it, no cheque.

Just pulled his details off eBay- Should i wait until tomorrow to see if the cheque arrives or just call him?
