Microsoft Outlook

The
safety and security of your information is top priority for Microsoft.
To help keep your account secure, Microsoft will no longer support the
use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with
only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you
will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s
modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email
apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or
Live.com email address on September 16th.
I followed one of the links and that wants me to pay £79.99 a year to upgrade which isn't possible. Is there another way that would be simple for me to follow as I am not tech savvy and am at a loss to understand what I am supposed to do.
I use a desktop and an android tablet to access my account.

What program or app do you use on the desktop and what operating system are you running?
What program or app do you use on the desktop?
What to do may depend on what your answers are to those two questions.
Microsoft offer a free (with adverts) Outlook Mail and Calendar on Windoze 10/11.
Microsoft have a free Outlook App for Mail and Calendar on the Android Play store.
I've had the same mail and suspect it may be because I use GMail to access as well as Outlook on the phone. I've yet to delve into it more and if it is that I suspect it'll be easily fixable.

My operating system is Pro 64-bit and I am using Window 10. I'm not sure what you mean by what program or app I use on my computer. Sorry I did say I was not tech savvy but I bet you didn't think I was this stupid.

I use Pop Peeper & Thunderbird to access my Hotmail/Outlook accounts.
I had to change PP to login type from "Password" to "Oauth2" so it's compliant from 16th Sep, I haven't yet done TB.
Let's Be Careful Out There1 -
Open your Mail/Calendar program (app is just yoof-speak for program) click on the Settings... then About... it should tell you what it is called there? Or on the taskbar if you hover over it's launch icon?
Win10: You've a bigger problem coming up next October 2025 when you're no longer supported. Upgrade to Windoze 11 if you can and your PC supports it.

Unfortunately Rodders53 I'm still struggling. I've clicked on settings but there is no 'About'. No icon appears on the task bar and surprisingly I do know how to access hidden ones. I've bookmarked Outlook Mail in my favourites I don't know if that tells you anything.I did try downloading Windows 11 but was informed that my desktop doesn't meet the minimum system requirements so that is going to be a problem for me.0

That's helpful, you're using a Microsoft Live account to access Outlook on the web. You should follow this guide from Microsoft on 2-step authentication - 2-Step Authentication - Microsoft Support
As you don't have a smart phone, the simplest option will be to have Microsoft text your phone a 6-digit code to input to confirm it's you logging in. These codes aren't needed on every login, only if Microsoft detects something different about the login.2 -
Well you should be fine as you use a browser and that email sounds like a generic one that says 'if' you want to use a application rather than a web browser to access your email then some of them will no longer work.
Outlook (the app) is free to install and use if you would rather have an app rather than use the browser
