Hi, I've opened an active savings account (funded with £10k) to take advantage of the £100 cashback offer.
Within the active savings account I've applied for the Emirates NBD, 3 months fixed, Starts 08/07/2024 4.99% AER. It's status is currently "pending" (awaiting the start date).

The cashback would be paid ~ Jan-Feb/2025.
The Emirates product will therefore mature on 08/10/24.
Do I need to keep the 10k in the Emirates product until Jan/25?
Or when the Emirates product matures in Oct/24 can I move it to another product within the active saver?

The T&C states "You need to hold at least £10,000 across one or more savings products for 6 months"

Thanks!

The T&C of the HL cashback offer:

Get £100 Cashback

To qualify, you must open a new Active Savings Account by 30 June 2024. You’ll then have up to 60 days to add at least £10,000 to one or more savings products.

You need to hold at least £10,000 across one or more savings products for 6 months to receive £100 to your Active Savings Account. If the balance of your savings products drops below £10,000 for the 6 months, you will not receive cashback.

1. This offer is available to anyone who opens a new Active Savings account between 00.00 on 17th June and 23.59 on 30th June inclusive (“the Offer Period”) via the affiliate link contained in the MoneySavingsExpert Newsletter and available on the MoneySavingsExpert website and fund your account with £10,000 or more within sixty (60) calendar days of opening. This offer does not include the HL Cash ISA.

2. To qualify for the offer, you’ll need to:
a) Open a new Active Savings Account between 00.00 on 17th June and 23.59 on 30th June (inclusive) by clicking the affiliate link on MoneySavingsExpert;
b) Fund your new Account, with at least £10,000 by debit card or easy bank transfer, and subsequently use this money to instruct us to add at least £10,000 to one or more savings products within your Active Savings Account. Both of these actions must be taken within sixty (60) days of the opening of the account to qualify (“the Qualifying Period”). For the avoidance of doubt, you can open an account without adding any money and still qualify for the offer, provided that your account is topped up at a later date within the Qualifying Period to a balance of at least £10,000 and you use this money to instruct us to add at least £10,000 to one or more savings products. Both of these actions must be taken within sixty (60) days of opening the account in order to qualify for the offer;
c) Keep the £10,000 or more invested in one or more savings products for at least 6 months (the “Minimum Investment Period”); and
d) comply with these terms and conditions.

3. If you open an account within the Offer Period and also satisfy the criteria listed in clause 2, we will credit your Hargreaves Lansdown Active Savings Account Cash Hub with £100. We will credit the cash amount within one month after the end of the Minimum Investment Period. We will notify you via email once the cash amount has been added.

4. The cash back will be based on the total amount added to savings products within 60 days of the opening of the account. The cash back will also only be based on the amount added to your account by debit card or easy bank transfer during the Qualifying Period. Money added from your Fund and Share Account or by any other means (including manual bank transfers) will not qualify for the offer. Not all banks are included in the easy bank transfer process and we accept no responsibility or liability if your bank is not available. You may top up your Active Savings account as many times as you wish during the Qualifying Period but the total funds added and invested must meet or exceed £10,000. If the funds added are less than £10,000, or if the £10,000 or more is not invested in one or more savings products for the Minimum Investment Period, no cash back will be paid.

5. Your Active Savings account must remain open for the duration of the Qualifying Period and Minimum Investment Period as well as for a further one (1) month thereafter to be eligible for the cash back payment.

6. It is not possible to combine the value of saving products chosen in accounts with different client numbers for the purpose of this offer. The maximum amount of cash back you can receive under this offer is £100.

7. We reserve the right to hold void, cancel, suspend, amend or withdraw this offer at any time if necessary, including for legal or regulatory reasons or otherwise. If the offer closes early, all qualifying applications received up until this time will still be accepted. Details of any such amendment, extension or withdrawal will be posted on our website at www.hl.co.uk/savings.

8. This offer is not available to anyone who already has an Active Savings Account. You must be 18 or older and a resident of the United Kingdom to qualify for the offer.

9. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

10. By opening an account within the Offer Period, you agree to be bound by the terms of this offer. We reserve the right to refuse to award the cash back to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions.

11. References in these terms and conditions to “Hargreaves Lansdown”, “our”, “us” or “we” are to Hargreaves Lansdown Savings Limited (company number 901007), authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA Register number 915119), whose registered office is at 1 College Square South, Anchor Road, Bristol, BS1 5HL. References to the “Hargreaves Lansdown Group” are to Hargreaves Lansdown plc (company number 02122142) and its subsidiaries from time to time.

12. Hargreaves Lansdown shall accept no liability to the extent legally possible in the event of harm or loss or technical, legal or validity issues relating to the use or exercise or redemption of the offer, in particular due to problems outside of our control.

Sounds like you just need to keep the £10k in one Active savings product and not withdraw it before the deadline
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

It's quite clear that the £10,000 doesn't need to be in one savings product.

This attractive offer has been in the MSE guide for weeks and ended over 2 days ago so I'm very surprised that this is the first dedicated thread about it that I've come across.

OP it's a shame you haven't read all of what you quoted because they have made it crystal clear that you needn't have funded it until ready to invest in a product. You are therefore going to lose over a week's interest, because the HL Active Savings Account doesn't pay any. Despite its name, it's not a savings product, so doesn't even count towards the six months.

I signed up to the most recent campaign ended on 05 Feb 2025 and have since trying to fund the account but unsuccessfully using the 'Easy bank transfer', just got a blank body after selecting the bank, tried different computer, different browser. CS said no known issue. Any similar experience?

There are alternative options to fund the account. Debit card is usually pretty reliable.

I’ve used the Easy Bank Transfer on HL today and yesterday without issues. When logged into your HL account and after the bank is selected there is a QR link or link to your Bank using your online details. I used the online method. I’m using HL for Active Savings.

Thanks @Warslet. May I ask which OS and browser you use? My experience is that it doesn't work on Chromium browsers, e.g. Chrome, Edge, Opera. I did get it to work on Firefox.

Thanks @masonic. Do you know if using Debit card, would that classified as a card spend from the bank?

Do you mean for the purposes of qualifying for cashback or another incentive from the bank? It depends but often such payments are not excluded. For example, it would get you the £5 Halifax monthly reward.
  • I've only ever been able to deposit funds in HL Active Savings by using a debit card. Unusual but not a problem for me.

I used Safari on my Mac and never had a problem.  Found it easier to use Easy Bank transfer than the QR code.
