I don't have a mortgage but we do share a joint bank account. What's the best way to disassociate my finances from his. Do I close the joint account. What about bills in joint names
You need to contact each of the three CRAs and request a Financial Disassociation.  Simply closing the joint account won't, in itself, sever the link - you need to contact the CRAs (and often you'll need to provide evidence that you're no longer financially associated).
If you Google for "Financial Disassociation" you'll find plenty of links and articles that explain what you need to do.
In terms of bills (I'm assuming you mean things like gas and electricity?), easiest thing is to contact the relevant company and get the bills altered to be in just one person's name.
Sorry, this advice is coming from a purely "practical" (as it were, though I'm not a lawyer) point of view.  But you may want to consider other ways around this before embarking on a potentially fairly drastic course of action.
Probably far more important is the question of what you want to do from a personal point of view, going forward.  Sort things out amicably, repair the damage - or call it a day and go your separate ways?  I've been there in the past, a long time ago, and it ain't easy.  And I'm absolutely not about to start offering advice on what you should or shouldn't do as regards that side of things, it's for you and him to sort out.  But it's something to think about.

You are financially linked as you are married

That's not actually correct.  Marriage, in itself, doesn't create a financial association.  It's only where you hold joint financial products - joint accounts and joint mortgages being two common ones, but any joint financial product will create a link.
