Credit file advice

My husband has been applying for loans unknown to me. These searches for applications for loans in his name are showing on my credit file. He's lied saying he did not apply for any loans then admitted he was trying for loans. Either way they are not me applying but are on my equifax file. He's destroyed my credit rating and I'm trying to clean it up any advice.

I would be more concerned right now about what he is up to that he needs to apply for secret loans.3

@MattMattMattUK there are about 10 searches on my credit file for vaious different loan companies for example one was one stop money shop. I dont know what type of searches they are but on my personal credit file I didn't apply and didn't know anything.
He cannot get any credit due to debt. I have never had bad credit in my life and was refused Klarna and an Asda card so something is going on hence my equifax search.0 -

You should be able to see on there what kind of search it was, it will say hard or soft. It will also show in the detail the application type, eg. was it a financial link check, ID check, application etc.0 -
@MattMattMattUK it's hard search and says identity verification.0

Other lenders will see the search then, they can also see you did not get the loan.
None of that hugely matters though, by far your biggest issue is the decision about when you want to carry on your marriage with someone who is at best totally financially irresponsible, or at worst might be committing financial fraud.0 -
@mattmattuk I've spoken to Equifax the searches have to stay on my file as we are financially associated so cannot remove them. They have confirmed my husband applied for loans in his name. I've wrote a letter to them to try to remove.0

Equifax won't be able to remove them. Firstly, they are an accurate record of the facts (whatever the rights and wrongs of the matter). Secondly, the Credit Reference Agencies cannot amend recorded information, they can only report on the data supplied to them from the lenders.

If you're financially linked (joint bank account, both names on the mortgage etc) then the records are correct. If either of you make credit applications then both files will reflect.0

I don't have a mortgage but we do share a joint bank account. What's the best way to disassociate my finances from his. Do I close the joint account. What about bills in joint names0
