Help with rerouting costs

Options
I am due to fly to Montpellier early in the morning on 14 July. BA cancelled my flight15 days before the flight. They can’t offer a flight until the next day. The only alternative is an EasyJet flight on the evening of either 13 July or 14 July.  I was only due to go for less than 48 hours anyway so going late on 14th or on 15th doesn’t make any sense.

I have chosen to rebook on the flight on evening if 13 July. I am really struggling to find helpful guidance on my entitlements regarding rerouting. I think I’m entitled to claim the difference in the flight costs from BA (although the online form doesn’t seem to let me do that u til after the flight date and I’m nervous about not telling them what I’m doing sooner).  Am I right and is there a way to claim before the flight date?

Am I also entitled to claim an additional night of accommodation? BA website says not. I offered to go to Marseille on 14 July and for them to cover transport to Montpellier but was told they wouldn’t do that either.

I can see there used to be some helpful CAA guidance which has been withdrawn - is that because it was all based on EU case law and UK cases havent played out yet?

I will also incur additional travel costs - I booked a car park at Gatwick but cant leave my husband without the car on eve of 13th so will have to suck up those costs too. Generally a bit grumpy that I seem to be the one picking up all the costs for a BA cancellation so any help welcome. (Sorry if I’m duplicating other posts, I have tried searching)

You are entitled to rerouting, which could mean either the EJ flight on the same day or the BA flight to Marseille plus onward transport.

You should insist that they make the booking: they are obliged to provide either rerouting or a refund, so if they refund your air fare they will refuse to cover additional costs. (If they refuse to make the booking then book it yourself but make sure that you refuse any refund.)

Just to note, under Article 8, BA are not obliged to reroute you on an earlier flight, only at the earliest opportunity or at a later date. It may well be a flight the previous day qualifies under this, but it will be case dependant. Chances are they will allow this however

Under Article 5, you are unable to claim accommodation as a result of electing to travel earlier.

Unless you're thinking of something different, the CAA rerouting guidance document is still published, but was moved from its original location to here:
