I’ve just had a smart repair done on my car, a car caught the front of my car ant took some of the paint off, we didn’t go through our insurances, instead I sent him a couple of quotes from smart repair companies he sent me the money over and I had it done, it would be more for the insurance excess and we would probably both have our insurance increased, I used chips away, but there are probably other companies in your area that do the same, a quick internet search will show you..

Thank you, I did Google Smart repairs and that may well be sufficient. I chased the insurance company today and unfortunately the lady isn't responding to calls from her insurance company to validate the claim. I will try and contact again tomorrow but have a feeling I may  have to go through my insurers after all.

I do feel a little concerned about her welfare as she is 82, lives alone in quite a rural location. During the exchange of details she said she had balance issues. I asked if she needed to call someone or help getting home and she refused and now radio silence.

This, and you apparently being in her “blind spot” makes me wonder if she should have been driving at all, which may explain why she’s gone quiet.  She clearly couldn’t see you approaching, which, unless you were doing 100mph past the junction, makes me think that you really were in her “blind spot” - ie anything beyond 2 inches away.

FWIW my Dad’s eyesight deteriorated we think (hope) quite quickly towards the end, culminating in being blinded by the sun and a lorry swinging wide (his version) or not seeing as well as he thought, being too weak move steer away and impaling the car on railings (police version).  The police brought him home and explained to me that he didn’t think that my Dad was safe driving due to various factors, including eyesight, and he had put a referral into DVLA.  My Dad admitted that he had cataracts but didn’t think they were that bad.

Thankfully, 6 days after the accident, my Dad died from an infection.  There is no way that he would have been allowed to drive again and I was not looking forward to having that conversation with him.
