Minor car accident

Options
Hi all,

Someone drove into the side of my car today, 66 plate Ford C max. Both cars were slow moving but the offside rear door is scratched, slight denting too the wheel arch and maybe some minor scratching to the alloy.

What do you think the likelihood is of them saying my car is written off due to age and value (WBAC value £4350). I have a vague recollection of cars of 8 years and over being written off almost as default??
In the event the car was written off I'd want to keep the car and fix it myself.

Thank you

Doesn't matter.  check Parker or autotrader to get the value of your car pre accident or similar - same make, model, year, mileage.  And be ready to tell the insurance company that's the cost of a write off.  They will likely offer you less but you should haggle.  And then tell them that you are keeping the car for which the payout might reduce by the scrap value of the car.

Indeed. So don't "tell" them - ask nicely.

There is is you claim against the third party insurer rather than your own (assuming they accept liability etc).

I have claimed against the third party, apparently I was in their blind spot, as I drove down the main road, they turned onto the main road off a side road and straight into me.

Its hard to tell from a photo, but if there is no need for new panels, only paint and some filler, I'd expect that to be fixed for less than £1000. I can't see them writing it off for that....

Thank you, I'm hoping whatever the outcome it's nice and easy

Is the damage too much for a smart repair?

I've no idea what that is sorry. It looks better than I thought as I was expecting a proper dent in the door.
I thought the insurers would have phoned me back this afternoon, but hopefully hear something tomorrow
