moving from sky to vodafone for bb and phone

Hi,

My sky package renews on 1st August. I plan to cancel as they cant offer me a competitive price.
£24pm going up to £38pm.

I'm planning to go for Voda 150mb, at £26pm and paygo landline. I get a £75 amazon voucher with compare the market.

My questions are:
Vodafone website says i can get a city fibre engineer out from 17th July to do the install. Does this mean i get charged for the service from then?

I want my sky landline number to be ported over to voda. Would it be ideal to have engineer come out just before 1st August?

I assume i need the activiation date of vodafone line to be 1st August and sky phone number transferred then?

I'm with Vodafone and got an amazing price but their customer service and tech support are offshore and hell on earth.

It's worse than I describe.  I can't put into words how it has been.  It started dropping out randomly after 5months and the tech support just work off robotic scripts where they tell you to put a pin in the router to reset it and thus lose all your config and this has been ongoing for months.  I intend to leave then with 1 year of my 2 year contract left.

If you don't believe me check the trustpilot reviews.  They are awful.

I got 500mb for around £28 monthly and a voucher when i signed up but that's worthless after 10 hours onto various departments

Take a look at Quidco, Topcashback and Uswitch for cashback offers.

When I was looking recently Quidco were offering £100 but that ended a couple of weeks ago.

I've never used Vodafone despite trying to switch to them twice, they really are useless and I would avoid them at all cost to be honest.

Your Sky contract won't 'renew' on 01/08/2024, it'll merely go into a rolling monthly contract with (I think) 14 days for cancellation, but you don't put a cancellation in as you'll lose the number.

Just decide who to go with (please don't choose Vodafone) and follow the online instructions for initiating a switch and make sure you click on the option to keep the number. You can even switch to Virgin Media and keep the number nowadays (I did it myself not long back).

    Try https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/compare-broadband-deals/

Edit: your new supplier wont charge until the switch is complete and your old one will terminate at the same time, you may have to be patient and wait for the billing to correct and any refund from Sky to arrive. It's the only way to avoid a break in service beyond an hour or so.
