Big O2 out of contract monthly price hike

I had a SIM Only 1 year contract with O2, which was originally with Virgin Mobile. They say that is up on July 18th. I only got the text yesterday Jun 27th. They say the price will jump from £8 a month to £23.
I looked and would like a rolling 30 day contract with Asda or GiffGaff. (using Vodaphone and O2 networks respectively).
But will O2 say I have to give 30 days notice to cancel like Virgin used to?
If so, I have not received 30 days notice from them!
So will I be charged £23 even if I change to a new company before the 18th? Or will it be done prorata?
Thank you

I've gone via uSwitch and got cheap o2 deals not on O2s own website.

Aww I love you! Thanks!

30gb for £7.99 ... 12 month contract. Don't care if it's not 30 day rolling. Fab!
I only use less than 2GB per month, but nice to have extra.
UPDATE:
When I clicked through to O2 the data was doubled so 60GB for 7.99! (and unlimited calls and texts). Very happy!

I was like the OP, migrated from Virgin to O2, on a SIM-only contract, £8, then £8,70 and now they wanted £21.77. I called O2 retention team and got an offer of 60 GB data, unlimited calls/texts for £10. Plus they offered a deal for my wife who was on EE PAYG, £8 but with 20% off = £6.40, 20GB + unlimited texts/calls. So £16.40 the pair of us. Result in my book.2

Will I keep the same number please?
I bought the Deal with Uswitch of 60GB for £7.99 but it guided me to go via my old O2 account.
I did and I picked Keep current SIM, and it worked, but I never saw any option to keep my old number.
I thought as I'm keeping my old SIM it would be the same number. I looked at how to transfer old number just in case. Send PAC to a text number.
But do I need to do that if I am staying with O2?
And keeping the same SIM?
It would be a huge pain to change my number now after all that.
Thanks a lot

You will be fine, you've "upgraded" your existing contract to a new one, you keep the same number (+SIM).TryingToWork said:Will I keep the same number please?

You can probably see the new contract terms (and your existing number) if you check your account online.2 -
Yes it says Keep same Number on the confirmation doc too, thanks a lot!flaneurs_lobster said:

Well done TryingToWork!
As an aside, everyone needs to read the small print, especially if planning to roam overseas. Some new contracts exclude EU roaming for “free”, one example is EE, who charge £2.47/day for some newer contracts… buyer beware.
We are with Giffgaff and 1p Mobile, having previously had 12 month contracts.1 -
OP - are you sure this text from O2 is not just an automated thing. I had similar which threw me into a bit of a panic. However checking "MyO2" they are still giving me the £16 per month discount that I had when I was originally moved from Virgin.1

Hi Troytempest, it might be. If you look at my later posts in this thread I was able to to get a great discount, via Uswitch. As I stayed with O2 and used my existing account, they still gave me the VM privilege of double the amount of data, for less than I paid last year, so it's all good.OP - are you sure this text from O2 is not just an automated thing. I am very lucky as I was very close to going to a different company and I would never have known that O2 would have still given me this good deal via Uswitch!
Thanks1
