Data Roaming
Warning. I am a Sky Mobile user and when data roaming in Europe I pay £2 per day to use my data allowance. However while on the island of Corfu my phone picked up an Albanian mobile network and I was charged £2.16 per MB to use my allowance. Sky refuse to accept any responsibility for this and say there is fair warning on their website that there is the potential for this to happen if you're traveling close to an international boarder. I would suggest turning off automatic network selection if you're at a destination where this might happen and manually select a network from the country you are actually in.

Exactly the same happened to my wife in Corfu, was it at the Durrell's house? Very close to Albania there. But luckily she's on PAYG so it just used up a few £ credit.
Either go PAYG or set a cap on usage (a cap without exclusions buried in the T&Cs). Also maybe get a decent provider who doesn't charge for EU roaming, there's no need to pay £2 a day.0 -
Albania may not feature in the free roaming, they certainly dont for o2zagfles said:Exactly the same happened to my wife in Corfu, was it at the Durrell's house? Very close to Albania there. But luckily she's on PAYG so it just used up a few £ credit.

So the issue in the OP may still have happened.0 -
I know, Albania aren't in the EU, that comment was just an aside. The way to avoid the problem (or at least minimise its impact) is a cap or PAYG. But in addition, there's no need to pay for EU roaming.la531983 said:

We use 1pmobile who don't charge any extra in the EU and let you use your boosts, within reason (there's a fair usage cap of something very high, 14GB IIRC).1 -
