Parking Fines on Private land

Thanks to the help and advice we successfully argued a rediculouse Parking Charge Notice at MacDonalds Stanstead. At the time a groups was lobbying the Govenment to regulate or better Regulate these Parking fine companies and it was suggested  it was only a matter of time before they were reigned in and max reasonable charges were brought in? I was watching TV this morning and heard they are now Charging £100 initial charge and that this has been agreed by the GOV is this correct?

    No it's not

The new government CoP isn't finalised yet, so what you probably heard about was the new watered down private CoP by the BPA and the IPC which was announced this week

Once the General election is over, the expected final version of the new DHULC CoP should be finalised and a start date issued

  • BBC News - reporter in Manchester was running around asking people if they new they could now be charged £100 for overstaying in a car park and would have to apeal if they missed the sign - didnt understand the terms - the terms of parking were complicated, unreasonable etc etc - in short all the ways the parking cowboys try to justify what is nothing short of estortion 90% of the time in my opinion. Perhaps somebody should fill in the BBC on whats reeally going on?

Most of the media haven't a clue what a Private Parking Ticket is, let alone can make up a decent article or report on it!
  • Agree... Chanel 4 and Panarama might tho if presented with the facts.

it doesn't help that they keep referring to them as fines, which all helps with the smoke and mirrors effect, so much so you get people who make it as far as sites like this also thinking they are fines

    From the Plain Language Commission:

"The BPA has surely become one of the most socially dangerous organisations in the UK"

Most of Joe Public haven't a clue when it comes to this topic and don't even know what the old system could do, nevermind that its been £100 for over 12 years

And the 10 minute grace period has been solidly in place across all sites where the public are invited to park (on-street and off-street) for about 8/9 years in both PPC CoPs, IIRC.

    The reporting is laughable.

Imagine being Press, asking Will Hurley for a comment on this false dawn, and actually believing what comes out when his lips move.

I was watching TV this morning and heard they are now Charging £100 initial charge and that this has been agreed by the GOV is this correct?
No. This has not been and will not be agreed by the Government. This isn't the statutory Code.  That will come in a few months.

Posted this to the comments on an article about this latest attempt to whitewash the destructive behaviour of the unregulated private parking industry. The article was giving oxygen to one of the principle authors of the current state of affairs:

Why do journalists give air to the likes of Will Hurley? He is a spokesperson for the cowboys and scammers (Hansard) that are single-handedly ruining the economy. 40,000 Parking Charge Notices issued every single day. The vermin that these unregulated private parking companies are, infest almost every retail car park or residential car park and are causing thousands of businesses to fail as they deter the once bitten, twice shy motorists from returning as patrons after receiving £100 invoices out of the blue for alleged breach of contract.

Will Hurley is one of the masterminds behind the competing but incestuous Approved Operators, the BPA and the IPC, whose only “regulatory” powers is to look after their member paymasters. Hurley and his ilk are raking in billions in spurious charges, often dressed up as “fines, from innocent motorists and are largely responsible for the current crisis in the county courts by overwhelming them with roboclaims that involve almost no human involvement up to and including CCJs, the vast majority of which are by default.

These vermin and their mendacious spokespersons are one of the biggest dangers to our economy and the media appear unable to see the cause and effect link between the two.
