I think it's becoming a thing generally - disappointed to see recently that BBC have discontinued their BBC app for downloading programmes and Channel 4 you can download on apps and not PC.

I much prefer PC website to apps for my banking/financial affairs.

I have seen no difference between the two as regards quality/upgrades etc etc
It varies by bank, Virgin is 90% app only and yet ironically there are a few things you have to do via the website, at least for their credit cards.

Barclays just seem "different" in a few things website has "preapproved offers" for credit, app has paying in cheques by photo and authorisation of online purchases etc

As Power of Attorney for parent, I can only use online banking via the banks websites to manage their accounts (3 different banks, although 2 are part of the same banking group)  - PoA access is not available via the apps
What banks don't allow POA via an app?
    IME Halifax, Lloyds & Nationwide

As stated above, Nationwide (who were also the most difficult of the three, by a country mile, to register the PoA with 😡) will only allow me online access because I am an existing customer myself.
There may be a slight nuance between "allowing" access and technically being able to have an app support more than one customer. So, if you removed your own Nationwide account from the app, could you add the PoA account?
I haven’t tried, but the letter says “We’re sorry, but you can’t manage someone else’s account on our Banking app.”

    Also

    Seems pretty definitive

If I wanted to mange the account via the app, I'd still be checking if anyone told the app developers :)

Unless the account is flagged as one under of PoA, and the app has been coded to block access in that case, I can't see why it would not work (other than not being able to have two customers on the same phone/app).

Also why do they only allow one debit card for the Attorneys? If there are two attorneys why should one of them only be allowed a card?

I'd say the opposite. With many banks there are certain tasks that can only be done online not using the app.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • But now there are many applications that help you see all your expenses. Why use spreadsheets?

It's simpler for me albeit I don't micromanage every spending transaction as my payments are always on credit card so it's just 1 payment end of the month that I budget for. I am 100% in with apps and the websites but I just prefer a spreadsheet for running totals and micromanaging funds to maximise interest e.g. I have 5p in my current account, while all my cash is in a Kroo account to earn interest

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Was just going to say this.
Nationwide for example, you can only manage credit card DD payments on the website.

Then there's the co-op whereby you can't always get logged onto the app because it's rubbish, but website always works (so far)
