Gas meter error

are you able to take a reading and then turn the gas off completely preferably using the handle at the meter and then see if the reading increases over say 24-48 hours
repeats with a handle turned on but everything else in the house turned off ie no pilot lights - nothing0 -
Your meter has "form " for going rogue .Google " Landis and Gyr Libra 310 " will show comments on MSE regarding this meter or very similar models to the 310P2

I have crossed checked them frequently. Although admittedly not every month. My gas meter is a bit of a pain to get at, but appreciate there could have been error at some point. Still, random 200 hike is odd. It would have to have been reading at a lag for months.0

A 'spot' jump isn't that unusual, particularly as meter batteries drain.jnsunnyday said:I have crossed checked them frequently. Although admittedly not every month. You may have to start checking it very carefully when the weather turns colder. That's when batteries are most likely to fade. And some meters do go haywire as the battery goes flat.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
It's a massive thread but have a look, there's not being a smart meter doesn't change anything https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6452074/gas-meter-still-increasing-whilst-gas-isolated-siemens-landis-gyr-e6s/p1

@BarelySentientAI could then this happen with a power cut? We’ve have a few of late (not actually a usual occurrence) including one that lasted three hours the day before I took this reading. Obviously I don’t have reading from previous day but it’s the only reason I can think of for weirdness.

Thank you. Basically the same issue I’m having. The more I think about it there have been other periods when my bill has been unexpectedly high. Just not quite to the extent of such a massive unit increase in my usage in a short period. I’m friendly with my neighbours and they have two toddlers and have the heating on a lot. Our bills seem to be comparable. My house never exceeds 14° , and is quite often less and I now shower at work all the gym as much as possible. I’ve also bought a slow cooker and use that as as much as possible. Yet my bills are still the same as neighbours. I even have better windows and flooring insulation than them. I have a combi boiler so no pilot light.Zandoni said:It's a massive thread but have a look, there's not being a smart meter doesn't change anything https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6452074/gas-meter-still-increasing-whilst-gas-isolated-siemens-landis-gyr-e6s/p1As on the thread you posted though. It’s definitely not all the time.0 -

Unfortunately when a meter starts to self increment it can be intermittent and hard to notice. They used to suffer with poor solder joints and it appears to get a lot worse when the battery gets old. Even temperature plays a big role, when they were manufactured temperature cycling was a part of the test before they left the factory.

No, gas meters are not connected to the electricity supply.jnsunnyday said:@BarelySentientAI could then this happen with a power cut?
