I had the same a few years ago. As said previously they give you a NI temporary number for the children. Mine were 9 and 10 when the “pension” money was sorted albeit a very small amount £8 weekly. This was then paid into accounts in their own name until they left education.
  • I will contact the pension people tomorrow and ask them to stop the payments and hold it for them until they are of age , it's seriously making me feel sick the worry , this money has nothing to do with me as we were divorced and I don't need the stress of it, but thank you so far for everyone's input x

I'm sorry, but they won't be able to do that - they have an obligation to pay the children's pension in accordance with the scheme rules.

As has already been mentioned, children's pensions are usually paid to their carers (for want of a better word) to help fund their day-to-day needs.

Sorry but it has everything to do with you and is similar to receiving child maintenance. Its to be spent on bringing up the children

  • I'm just terrified they will now say I've been overpaid UC when I didnt ask for this situation Ive emailed pensions team to see what the say
  • Whatever anyone's opinions are what the money should or shouldn't be used for is irreverent to the OP's question and not part of this board's remit.
The sole question is can a child's income or capital be used to reduced / zero a parent's UC. I have never seen a rule that it could, OP is the claimant and if they have a partner only their income and capital can be included.
    Let's Be Careful Out There
  • Thank you Hillsstreet, Im on my own as well were divorced when he passed, what I'm worrying about is when I tell them they won't know the answer and it going to appeal I really don't have the energy for it with my anxiety , but it's looking like I haven't got a choice
  • Are there any UC staff on here that would no the answer I wonder ? 🤔

Probably not and they would probably be excluded by their job contract to give advice or talk about policy outside of work
