Barclaycard refuses to stop a fraudulent CPA set up with ITVx

Can you freeze the card?
I'm guessing you don't want to use it after the way Barclaycard have dealt (or should that be not dealt) with your case and it might stop money going out, without the threat of Barclaycard saying that you would still be liable if the account were closed.
Another case where I'd suggest contacting your MP when there are some - banks not treating customers fairly has become a big issue and their inability to stop paying a fraudulent payment, then to effectively force you to keep the card open, doesn't seem fair.
Another issue has been that some companies make subscriptions more difficult to cancel than they were to sign up to in the first place. That's if it is your account, so when it isn't there's definitely a problem. It must be Data Protection Laws that mean they won't talk to you when you aren't a customer, but you aren't asking them to provide information as to who gave them your card details, only to remove those details from whatever account they're on upon production of the appropriate ID if necessary.

OP, I had to close an account with a CPA that I couldn't otherwise stop (I stupidly signed up for a free trial for something dodgy). At the time the bank (in branch) was helpful and helped me set up a new account at the same time. And then the problem was gone.Debt Free: 01/01/2020

weeflour said:@la531983 if that were true then Britbox/ITVx wouldn't continue to charge the card every month for 3+ years! I will take this to the Ombudsman. It looks like they never considered the victim in this fraudulent scenario.. and one where VISA passes on the new card details each time. These Continuous Payment Authorities should be better controlled.
It is very easy to stop these payments. They have the system provided by Visa or Mastercard that allows them to make the payments as cancelled at their end.
Should be part of their fraud reporting procedure on these payments to do it...
They going to get a big slap from FOS on this.Life in the slow lane0 -
@Ergates I'm not worried about the actual liability here as I agree there would ultimately not be any. I am concerned that... If I close the Barclaycard account and the CPA continues (that's what Barclaycard have told us, although wonder if this is possible). Then the Barclaycard system does not refund the charges as their monitoring fails again and we are left with some unknown debt that while I appreciate we do not owe gets reported to a credit reference agency and I have to go through correcting that.0

Again, no debt would build up. You have no contract with ITV. At all. Not sure how many more ways we can tell you the same thing lol.0 -
@la531983 I am not concerned about ItvX and have stated that several times. I have no contact or debt with ITVx and have made that clear but if Barclaycard do not stop adding these erroneous charges, even when my credit card account is closed ( according to them) then I will have a balance with them that will need to be disputed. Pretending it doesn't exist or knowing that I'm not liable doesn't help.0

@la531983 I hope you are right. I checked the final letter from Barclaycard and they don't mention the scenario when you close the account. They only stated this verbally. It is frustrating that ITVx don't action these fraud notifications supplied by the card provider. In their letter Barclaycard state that sometimes it is impossible for them to stop these charges when the company continues to charge after they were notified of fraud.
It is just a pain that it happens every month and there seems no mechanism to resolve it. Other people must be hit by this.
Anyway thanks for everyone's advice/support. I think my expectations are set now that the ombudsman will not act. I will try anyway to raise an awareness of this issue and post back if there is a positive outcome from the ombudsman. Otherwise, like you say, I guess close the Barclays account and forget about it, knowing I won't be liable is the only alternative.0
