Fedex lost parcel, still demand customs fees

If you didn't pay the fees requested then the parcel would have remained with FEDEX. Imported parcels can only be released after payment is made. Importers effectively works as collection agents on behalf of the HMRC.Mfczk said:
I'm not sure what to do. I never received the parcel, so surely the liability is on them right?1 -
Can I ask what number you used? I did call about my issue, and I was told they couldn't help me and was directed to email the customs department.. The same one that ignored me previously.forgotmyname said:Phone them. I had a situation with 2 boxes in a shipment. Driver delivered just one box and oddly handed it to my wife and almost sprinted to
his van with no signature, She thought it was rather light so turned the box over to find it was empty.
She was upset but I said don't worry he must have known it was empty, possibly 2 tubes with one sliding inside the other because the
items were approx 1m long and this was only half of it.
I phoned FedEx and they were helpful, chasing the 2nd item and in contact with the seller regarding replacement items. I did receive 2 sets of
invoices after everything got sorted so I phone them again and said do you really expect me to pay this?
Not only did they scrap their charges but they also scrapped the tax etc. I was just expecting them to cancel the charges for the non delivered
items but they did better than that.0 -

It's common for couriers to release the parcel and then send you an invoice later. I've had this before and paid it. Especially if it's a lower value item0 -
It varies by courier etc. In some cases I've been asked to pay even before its been imported and in other cases its been billed a month or more afterwardsHoenir said:

I certainly wouldn't be paying it. It's a Fedex problem and if they disagree they can try the courts.0

I had to deal with them recently for work and the customs department took something like 9 weeks to reply, but then got the correction filed with HMRC within 4 hours and where then very prompt once HMRC replied.Mfczk said:

Sadly all the main couriers are the same and (without trying to get political) it’s a direct result of what the country voted for a few years back.1 -
Has nothing to do wth Brexit. Importation of goods has long been subject to various import charges. Misinformation on social media is the real issue.Jonboy_1984 said:Mfczk said:

As someone who arranges imports an average of a consignment a day for work (anything from single parcels to full shipping containers) all of the fast parcel couriers have become worse at smooth service, and have a much much longer resolution time when they do make mistakes since brexit due to higher workloads from the huge volume of extra clearances they are processing (and don’t talk to me about their recent attempts to use AI to process the documents).0 -
Importing (and exporting) has always been fraught with challenges. Brexit has nothing to do with the OP's issue. The basic rules have been the same for a very long time. Employing sufficient manpower is another matter all together.Jonboy_1984 said:Hoenir said:Has nothing to do wth Brexit. Importation of goods has long been subject to various import charges.
