Yes they quickly changed the rota back and I was asked of tackle a shop lifteroldernonethewiser said:gadget88 said:So the company response has been change my 3 day pattern to 4 day breach of contract. HR phoned my store and said 30 days written notice I’m ready to go down route of employment lawyers as I was asked to tackle a shop lifter and also I had my contract breached so this issue may go beyond the phone now. Advice much appreciatedAre you suggesting that the company has breached the contract by changing your work pattern?Who asked you to tackle a shoplifter and in what way? Did you?0 -

Am I understanding it correctly that in the space of less than three hours they have changed your rota (and back again) and you think that that is wrong and a breach of contract? It feels like you are looking for things to complain about. And I do hope that if you are in work and checking the rota that the phone is in the locker and the rota on the notice board.1

Are you suggesting these two things are related?gadget88 said:

Who asked you to tackle the shoplifter, and, specifically, what were you asked to do?

Huge fuss by OP over something trivial. Don't leave a £1,000 phone in a locker - get a cheap one (well under £100 for a perfectly good smartphone) and use that on working days. Only takes a moment to switch your SIM.penners324 said:

Your working shifts, tacking a shoplifter and no phones while working - are these somehow related to one another or are they all separate grievances?gadget88 said:So the company response has been change my 3 day pattern to 4 day breach of contract. Not using or having your phone on you while being paid to work does not seem unreasonable. Leave it at home or locked in your car if you have concerns around the security of the lockers. Having a phone in your pocket is not a human right."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
So area manager says no iPods either despite it not being company policy?0

And this is relevant how?

I think it is quite common for employers in various sectors to prohibit the use of personal mobile phones in the workplace. It is not uncommon for phones, wallets, etc to all have to be left in a locker / car / reception.1
