Doesn't that just mean you need planning permission and consent? It's not a complete bar to having a charger. Presumably you have space to park cars?

At some point ICE vehicles will be phased out, and electric will be the norm, so people in listed properties will need to be able to charge their vehicles just like those in non-listed buildings.

No I don't have anywhere to park, although there is a path between my house and the next building it isn't wide enough for a car.

I am not even allowed double-glazing. Single-glazed wooden sash and case only.

In the future I will be dependent on public charging, but our local authority is a long way from providing pavement charging.

The electric car has been great. I can't believe how good it is to drive, but charging here has gone backwards in the time I've had it.

I think this will be your issue, anyone I know who has gone back to ICE after driving electric says that the ICE vehicles feel slow and clunky, not pleasant to drive. It is not a premium vehicle thing either, it does not matter how expensive the ICE vehicle is, they just do not feel nice to drive compared to an EV (unless one is only after brum brum noises).

What listed grade is your home?
  • A shame you can’t have an EV as the eGolf can be had for around 10k now.

Above 50mph the noise of the tyres normally drowns out the internal combustion engine - so if you only drive around on clear motorways it's not so bad.  It's at slower speeds and around town that ICEs really suck.

I wondered if the OP would consider another lease - but this time of a plug-in hybrid?

I think I'd agree with that - the electric car will be missed.

I'm in Scotland, so B listed. The equivalent of grade ii.

Have you looked at Hybrids? I've not, but my BIL has one and loves it. It's a Toyota Yaris. I've no idea beyond that, but he loves it, raves about it ad nauseum to be honest, so I tend to switch off when starts. I think his is a self charging rather than plug in. I have read that plug in ones can just use leccy all the time if you don't do many miles each day, but at least you have the engine back up if the missus doesn't like the charging nonsense, and you have the leccy car feel if you do. Not recommending a Yaris by the way, no idea what they are like to drive.

I've thought about another lease. I was looking at a Corolla hybrid estate as it came up at a very good price. Then again I've seen a Nissan Ariya with the 87KW battery and 4 wheel-drive for around £270 a month. That's an amazing deal at that price. My wife is quite insistent she doesn't want another electric, but I may manage to get her to look next time we are at a Nissan garage.

My £8-10k budget is based on what a very good lease deal would cost over 3 years.
