Salary Disclosure For Same Role

A couple of other people have told me what they got and it's the same pence per hour (I wish I could say £), I got over 2 roles.Andy_L said:
Same as a %age or same as a £x?Cazzaroo said:Hi,
Long story short. I job share my secretarial role but I also have a 2nd role which the other Secretary doesn't.
Everyone got a small pay rise recently.
I've a feeling everyone got the same but mine was split over 2 roles (separate rate). Therefore, I think my job share may have got slightly more for the 1 role to balance it out.
Do I have any rights in knowing the rate of pay for someone doing exactly the same job?
We were on the same before the raise.
Thanks
Why do you think "everyone got the same"
Why do you think the job share got more to balance it out rather than getting the same but pro-rata to balance it out
It's one thing if it's a different role but if it's the same role and we've been on the same up until now, then I feel that's wrong.
Treat others how you would like to be treated. 🤞0 -
You may very well do and plenty of people may agree with you but that doesn't make it unlawful.Cazzaroo said:

I don't understand why you think you and 2 others getting the same extra per hour is unfair on you.Cazzaroo said:

If you have two roles presumably you don't expect to get double pay as you can't do both at precisely the same minute.0 -
Why is it wrong ? Even if they are paid more than you that breaks no rules some staff deserve more than others doing the same role.Cazzaroo said:

I get paid quite a bit more than other people doing the same role as me in the NHS.
They’ve been doing it for a year or 2, myself for 10+There are many reasons why people may get paid more (or less) than others for doing the same role - unless as already mentioned that’s it’s purely due to certain protected characteristics.
If you think you deserve more, you have options0 -
So won't your job share, despite getting the same pence per hour rise as you, get less money in their back pocket as they work fewer hours?Cazzaroo said:

ie you've both got the same amount of extra money for the job share role while you've got the extra pph for your 2nd role0 -
I am not clear how a pence per hour rise could be divided across two jobs? Unless you are saying everyone else got 10p per hour rise and you got a 5p per hour rise on one job and 5p per hour on the other. Which I agree would not add up to the same thing. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

As a quick aside then @lisyloo you can probably help me. I said above most staff must have a fair idea? Jobs are advertised and yet still people feel uncomfortable, as you said it could really hack someone off - that's what I don't see, why?lisyloo said:

We had different job titles and I wasn't bothered my manager tried to explain to me why I got less money never to my satisfaction. When a new member of staff at taken on to cover my role and those others in the department I had to train them. When I pointed that out to my manager and HR they said they'd look at my role. I think sharing this sort of information is useful but most people feel uncomfortable doing so. I never got that. Why be embarrassed or cagey most people at work have a shrewd idea, why not just be open.
It's a very sensitive subject for most people.
For most people it is sensitive - how did it get that way, it has never been with me.1 -
A colleague who is paid less who perceives they are as good as me, could be really hacked off if they find out they are paid less.kempiejon said:

Many people are highly invested in their salary as a representation of their worth.
They employer may see me (for example) as a better performer and pay me more, the person on the receiving end of the lower salary with their subjective view may be very upset at the idea that they are a poorer performer and disagree strongly.
If it doesn't bother you then IME I'd say you were the exception and not the rule.0 -
An employer does not have the right to prevent employees sharing details of their salaries. Such clauses should no longer be in contracts and if they do exist are void.prowla said:Some employers make it a condition that you do not disclose your salary.(And hence by implication nobody does.)0
