Appointee

Options
Hello

My wife is receiving DLA for our child who will be turning 16 in couple of months. We will have to apply for PIP. The letter just states if we would like to request an appointee and the reasons.

My wife  has limited English. Will it still be okay for her to be the appointee on PIP? DLA for the child was under her name.

Thanks

She needs to be able to understand the forms well enough to complete them, to be able to go through the processes if it’s turned down initially and know what changes she has to report and how to report them.
Will she be able to do that with support?

What’s the reason that you feel she is better being the appointee rather than you.?

Have you asked a similar question before about other benefits because this sounds very familiar?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

She will be able to do that with Support. I just thought DLA was under her name so transfer of PIP will be best to be in her name too.

I haven't asked any questions about the young person appointee.

The PIP will not be in her name, she will be the appointee. The claimant will be your child. If your wife has limited English, will she be able to answer all questions during any potential assessment? Most people have assessments.

OP previous thread here where appointee questions were asked.https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6532249/child-dla#latest

Okay I think might be best if I put my name as an appointee for the PIP.

The previous thread was more to do with DLA award showing Oct 2025 which was confusing because the child reaches 16 in Oct 2024.

They usually contact you about being an appointee first. I think they will then send the letter out inviting you to apply for PIP just as they reach age 16.

I'd advise you to have a read of the links provided in your other thread.
