    If your solicitor thinks something is amiss and suggests a deadline then I would be listening to them. 

    I am going through similar at the moment with a purchase. It’s cash and being sold by a company so you would think it would be a quick turnaround… 8 weeks in and still waiting for the seller’s old solicitors (there’s been a breakdown of a professional relationship) to respond to Land Registry after first registration (so not even in regards to my purchase!). They have been chased by LR, my conveyancer, the sellers and the estate agents. Yet they are point blank refusing to admit they’ve received anything even though LR have confirmed the when, why, who and what they've sent. I’m giving them another week and pulling out if there’s no movement. There’s being patient and then there’s sleepwalking into a situation that will effect my chain & possible sale. Feeling uneasy is completely understandable as you’re at the mercy of people doing the right thing. 

    For what it’s worth, my conveyancer also agreed with my shout of setting a deadline. They definitely have a feel for ‘normal’ delays and when something is not quite right. That’s the experience we pay them for after all. 
  • Recently sold an inherited house, should have been the quickest simplest transaction ever, but dragged on because the buyers conveyancer was, well crap to be blunt. Threatened to remarket it unless completed by a certain date and they finally pulled their finger out. Some firms take on a lot of work and as the saying goes, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. So it took 5 months, should have been a few weeks!
