A few problems. I need the account open in next couple of weeks, but online application with Nationwide is taking too long, now asking for proof of ID. Can't get to a branch until next week and the been told could take 10 working days until account and card avaialble.
Just to recap my son is travelling to Borneo. Already has a Mastercard, but told VISA is best out there
Personally I find it hard to believe Mastercard won't be fine0 -
Told by whom, Visa is best..?Borneo is a huge island, Sabah and Sarawak are Malaysia, Brunei its own state, the rest is Indonesia (Kalimantan). It may depend on where he's going in particular.Evolution, not revolution1

May look hip, cool & down wid dem yoot but it's really HSBC.
EDIT : Sorry 18+ only.
I'm fairly well travelled and I cannot recall a single occasion when Visa/Mastercard acceptance was not equivalent.

It's Sabah. I think I'm going to risk the Mastercard. I checked on a travel forum and they said no problems. Scrap Nationwide Flex Account!eDicky said:Told by whom, Visa is best..?Borneo is a huge island, Sabah and Sarawak are Malaysia, Brunei its own state, the rest is Indonesia (Kalimantan). Is Diners Club still in existence and am I right in thinking it is/was a charge card, as opposed to credit?flaneurs_lobster said:

The shop window stickers are a childhood memory but, to the best of my knowledge, I've never known a DC account holder.0 -
Revolut's standard card is a Visa and they're pretty swift in sending them. The standard plan offers one <18 card with 'limited features' - this isn't a recommendation, I don't have kids so don't use this feature, but it may be worth a look to see if it will be suitable for your lad.Majic said:A few problems. It does still exist, but it's a shadow of its former self - it's now a kind of Lounge Access card with some restricted payment facilities (and yes it is and was a charge card). You'd struggle to use it now other than in international hotel chains and major airlines.gary1312 said:

I had one (as a corporate card) for a while when I worked for a US company, story was that everyone had Amex until the CFO had his card refused in a posh restaurant in NYC at which point he threw a huffy...1
