Villa booking

Options
Have booked a villa in Greece and along with the usual info the owner is asking for our national insurance numbers. Is this legit?

I have never ever had someone ask that, and I would never give it.
I have travelled all over the world and stayed in tons of places, but never had that.

There is no reason they would need that information.

Just a thought, but have they made a translation error? It is not uncommon to ask for passport /national id card numbers. In many countries (including Greece) the national ID card is frequently used to confirm bookings, and may even enable users to travel internationally. I suspect that is what they are asking for, but mean your passport number (which is our only equivalent).

    I suspect the same.

Your passport numbers and details may be needed to register your stay with the local authorities.

As above, probably mean passport number.
However, we’ve booked self catering accommodation and hotels on lots of Greek islands over many years & I've never been asked for any personal ID. Hotels want your passport details on arrival.
