Does that carry through to your State Pension.
I'm not asking for me as I purchased my place outright Just before my 66th Birthday.
I'm wondering now if I have done the right thing ???

Probably a question better off asked over on the benefits board
Benefits & tax credits — MoneySavingExpert Forum
I'm not an expert but I think that for new working age claimants these days an housing element of Universal Credit has replaced Housing benefit. Housing benefit is still available for those over state pension age, but I don't know if you'd have to submit a new claim once you reach State Pension age if you are already in receipt of it.1 -

Yes you have done the right thing, well I think so anyway. How do you know if & how legislation will change in the future? Would you like to receive a section 21 eviction notice in your 80s? You have secured your future, that is the best most of us can do.

Hi OP ... reading between the lines you are in receipt of state pension and have little capital.
Although you are not eligible for housing benefit for a rent allowance, you may well be eligible for other benefits such as council tax benefit and further support and discounts if you can receive pension credit.

As @p00hsticks suggested, the benefits board will likely be very useful.

I think many of us have fears for the future, but for me begging is not one of them, and dare I say it shouldn't be for you either. The state pension is sufficient and is more than enough for all my normal spending and hopefully nasty surprises can be mitigated by insurance and emergency savings.
I am pleased you are in good health, as am I, but of course we can't take it for granted as we age, so we need to look after ourselves, but being physically and mentally in good shape is the best insurance policy.
Actually I don't know that it is that difficult obtaining reasonable employment as a pensioner, it depends. A continuation of a previous high flying career is probably out of the question, but if your expectations are not high I think there's a number of minimum wage + £1 type jobs out there. Of course you will have no benefits to lose and no national insurance to pay. In my case I am very happy to be retired.
