It's odd that Barclaycard have taken the line of killing the existing physical cards - when you change products via the app, there's nothing to stop you using your existing card - even if swapping between a Visa and Mastercard product.

What I would say is that you have legitimate cause for complaint here, so I would complain and ask for a reasonable wadge of compensation too.

I also lost 100+. Anyone raised with ombudsman and can share the format
  • I did cash in my points but felt very disgruntled about the loss of rewards/ cashback in intervening period as spent over 6k during this time.  I complained in App messaging and have been advised they will credit my account to compensate now
I agree it's been poorly done by Barclaycard ... still waiting for my new card to arrive
  • My June statement (paperless) says "your new Freedom Points total: 25,355.  When I follow the link to the store to redeem them, I get: "Barclaycard Freedom Rewards product is closed".  Judging from others' experiences, my only recourse is to try to find a trustworthy supplier with a decent loyalty scheme!

You could always try a complaint. I'd be very surprised if they weren't willing to give you the cash value of those points in compensation.

You should certainly shop around for the best deal - but it's worth noting that Barclaycard offer two reward products which might be worth considering - the 0.25% cashback 'Reward' (which you might be transferred to based on others experiences) and Avios - and it's worth considering the latter can be converted automatically in to Nectar points, giving you an effective flat rate of 0.5% on all spend (when redeeming the points at face value at Sainsburys, Argos or Ebay).

There are other offers available - Santander's Edge Credit Card (2% in Y1, 1% thereafter, £3/month fee) and Amex Nectar (1% equiv back in Nectar points, £24 annual fee from Y2) would be the two I'd highlight. If you'd like more help then let us know what your typical monthly spend is and somebody can provide you with some competitive options to consider.
  • Same here. Via online chat they said they had sent me a letter and email in March, which I did receive, but also sms and app reminders in March April and May.  That DID NOT HAPPEN. Very disappointed with Barclaycard, can't register mt new rewards card also.

Same here. £150 worth of points lost.  Contacted Barclaycard to be told I had received notice via email to use or lose my points.  Checked all emails and found only one (that had gone to junk in Feb 24) mentioned closure of the points scheme and loss of points, and that wasn't a header, just a paragraph half way down mixed in with all other waffle about the benefits of the new card.

I receive  a paper copy of my statement every month on which appears my points balance (still does).  This has kept appearing with no reference to the fact that the scheme was closing and that they would be lost.  There are a few places on the statement paperwork that they use to provide information on latest scams to watch out for, rate changes, ways to pay your bill etc, so no excuse for not highlighting the closure of the points scheme on here.  I'd expect several methods of communication specifically raising awareness of the urgency to use or lose your points. They just seem to be happy to be able to tick a box that information was available somewhere at some time and that it was the customers fault if you didn't find it!

I've been told my complaint has be opened and closed as there is no further action from Barclcard and the points/monitory value is lost.  I think someone from the MSE team should pick this up on our behalf and take Barclaycard to task.

  • I like many others have fallen foul and missed the deadline to claim my £210.00 of reward vouchers.  Raised a complaint which was not upheld by Barclaycard.  They tell me that I have been sent several notifications reminding me which were sent to me on the App.  I have asked for evidence which has not materialised and that is because i never downloaded the App!!  Although i have not checked recently my account was still telling me that i had 74,278 points that i can redeem for £210.00 and that was on 06 June, all a little misleading.  I intend closing the account on the basis that i feel they have purposely not updated their customers to save money.  I have today raised a complaint with the financial ombudsman. I will update you all if I make any progress
  • First I knew of the freedom rewards scheme stopping was today through an email. Tried to log in to my account but couldn't and phoned the Barclaycard number supplied.  Had a discussion with the person at the other end and pointed out that I have never received any communication about the change and also my statement just arrived said I had 24,250 points. Was told that the scheme had ended but I registered a complaint and was credited with the cash value of the points on my account. Looked on the web for more information and ended up here and found that many other people have had the same problem. The answer is to phone up and ask for the value of the points to be credited to the account and don't take no for an answer. With all the complaints on here it is quite clear that barclaycard have massively messed up. To anyone reading this I say to phone up now, have all your log in details ready and your last statement to hand with the current points total and ask that you have the cash equivalent credited to your account. And if you haven't had your new card yet, then you won't be able to get onto your online account because you need the three digits off the back....Good luck.

I received my new Rewards card today after receiving a text earlier in the week saying it was delayed and would be delivered by the 'end of July'

I wasn't a massive user of the card anyway and received a couple of emails so was aware, but a text message on top would probably have been better!
