Currys dryer packed up after 18 months

Hi.
I bought a logik heat pump dryer 18 months ago online from Currys. Now I haven't bought many brand new appliances so when they offered me care or repair I decided it must be a rip off after all the thing was only a year old and my last dryer must have been at least 10... So....
Well anyway it packed up last week and today I rang a local repair shop who very kindly did a bit of a diagnostic over the phone, identified it was the control board and then told me the part was unavailable and advised I ring Currys.
I spent about an hour on the phone to a call centre gave them all of my personal info multiple times. They offered me a fixed price repair at £149 but then weren't able to email me the t's and c's or the offer which I found really concerning. I didn't give them my bank details. Surely no one hands over £150 without something in writing?
So I'm feeling ripped off and ever so slightly violated.
So foumites. Was that a genuine Currys helpline first of all?
And is there anything I can do about my dryer?

Not sure how anyone can do a diagnostics over the phone on a dryer..
Currys website it will have the contact no.Life in the slow lane0 -
It's completely dead. No power, Apparently it can only be the power cable or the control panel as the power cable goes directly into the panel not a brilliant design feature tbf but there you go. I have no reason to disbelive him, he could very easily have changed my £40 for a call out to tell me the same thing. The control panel is £100 which I wouldn't have minded but they are not available which the guy infoms me is usually because the part is obsolete.
I checked the number and it's the one on the receipt so it is probably ok although some people can spoof numbers but I am astonished that anyone would just hand over £150 off the back of a phone call? I'm going to try them again x0 -
Completely dead, has the fuse in plug been checked? Or power supply to socket?Life in the slow lane0

Yes I tried both of those first1

Without opening it. How do you know the power cable goes directly to the control panel?
As to what to do next you have four choices.
See if it's covered on your house insurance.
Pay someone to fix it.
Take out Currys repair plan.
If you think the dryer is inherently faulty or not of suitable quality then as more than six months has passed since purchase you'd need to prove that. The usual way is to get a qualified engineer to inspect the dryer to report on what is wrong and why it has gone wrong. (It's not enough just to say the board has gone it needs to say why and if it's manufacturer fault as opposed to excessive use, abuse, misuse or accident) If that shows it's an inherent or latent fault then you should approach Currys.
If they agree then can choose to repair, replace or give you a partial refund to reflect the 18 months of use.

The repair man looked up the model to provide a diagnosis. I used the dryer rarely in the summer and I'm careful to clean filters and such as per the manual so it really shouldn't be broken beyond repair in 18 months. I'm going to go to the store tomorrow and see what they say.0

Update....
So after multiple frustrating calls to customer service I went into the store. The manager was really helpful and raised an 'out of warranty claim' so they arranged an engineer to visit which I will have to pay a fixed fee of £150 if it can be mended if not it will be refunded the £150 in full and I will be compensated for the cost of the dryer.
They were actually brilliant once I managed to speak to an actual human!!!0
