Notice of Intended Prosecution - Variable Speed Limit

Telling a magistrate that you were confused because you were on a long journey is likely to lead to a much tougher punishment. This is aggravating rather than a mitigating excuse. Take the course or 3 points and drive more carefully in the future.1

Apart from the bits where you weren't.therealhyper said:I was driving safely to the best of my knowledge within the limits0 -
sounds like the speed awareness course might be a worthwhile endeavor for OP!

hello all, thanks for your responses, appreciated. For those asking, it is a ''Notice of Intended Prosecution'' for the alleged offence of ''Exceed a variable speed limit - automatic camera device'', speed was allegedly 46mph and the speed limited at the time was reduced to 40mph on the M1 motorway. I was drive safely through out the journey and the reduction in speed appeared to be due to road works on the motorway. The speed adjustments were prevalent through out the journey and I guess lapse of focus when the speed re-adjusted for what felt like the 100 time, intermittently between national speed limit and plenty of variations in between (60 50, 40, 30). The constant speed changes at 04:00am when the traffic volume was low and poor motorway lighting isnt ideal but sounds like, it is what it is, suck it up ! Thanks all.0

Speeding in such work zones results in fines being doubled in some countries, specifically to emphasise that it's not generally considered to be safe....therealhyper said:I was drive safely through out the journey and the reduction in speed appeared to be due to road works on the motorway.0 -
Road works and poor lighting would seem to be a good reason for a speed limit.therealhyper said:hello all, thanks for your responses, appreciated. The smart Motorways can sometimes be a joke.
Traffic was stop start for several miles with the limit changing from 40 to 50 but never being able to go over 20 anyway.
As we reached a junction where the motorway split the overhead gantry said national limit applies so I accelerated
away, checking to my left between two HGV's I spotted the 50mph sign...
If I had not seen that I may have received a ticket. More than a few cars in the right hand lane did not see it, so they were
accelerating to 70 and probably would not see the next 50mph sign until after the next camera.
M42 a while back we had 9 speed changes, joined from the M6 and exited on the M5(S). Half the time you could not do the
posted speed anyway, if it's that busy surely sticking to one speed is safer than setting the limits up and down repeatedly?
Don't get me started on the slower speed to improve air quality, I was cruising along at 68mph/63mpg in top gear then I need
to drop down and it's doing 54mpg?? And this helps air quality how?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Aerodynamic drag is the square of speed so 50mph is roughly half the drag of 70mph. Drag is what the fuel in your car burns to overcome. If your fuel consumption rises at a lower speed, there is something wrong with your car or gear selection.forgotmyname said:

70 sq = 4,900. 50 sq = 2,500.
There is a section of M3 leaving the M25 to the SW that has a permanent 50mph section as it was proven pollution for adjacent residential areas was greatly reduced.Signature on holiday for two weeks1
