Car Fault 'not under warranty'

Update (and thanks for the advice all that did).  They have relented and now said that part IS under Warranty after I kept pushing.  Now very wary of these 7 or 8 year Warranties though as it seems they are used for advertising rather than for actual repair work.  Looking dow the warranty list most items are only under Warranty for about a year 'Under the 7 year warranty'.  - Be aware!

Those items are consumables, they will always be excluded from warranty after a year, some from the start. The important things are chassis, body, drivetrain, battery, main etc. and they all covered. It would be unreasonable for consumables to be covered, if you want that you need a service plan ok top.
